Diatomite, or Diatomaceous Earth (DE) is the fossilized remains of microscopic one-celled phytoplankton that lived in huge freshwater lakes that once covered the western part of the US.
These fossilized microskeletons, also known as Amorphous Silica, are mined from areas that used to be the bottoms of these lakes, thousands of years ago.
If you magnify them 7000x, you can see their spiny honeycomb structure.....key to Diatomite's many uses!
It is odorless, tasteless, and completely safe to eat.
Milling it produces different sized and shaped particles, and diatomaceous earth is used in paints, cosmetics, drugs, chemical insecticides, etc. Filtering and filler are two main uses and it is important not to use the filtering type for agricultural purposes....USE ONLY FOOD GRADE DIATOMACEOUS EARTH.
Our Codex Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth has an unlimited shelf life provided you keep it dry.
